ABOUT SANJIB MOHANTY
Dr. Sanjib Mohanty is a Senior Physician from the city of Rourkela, Odisha, India. He was the Ex-Director of Ispat General Hospital (IGH) in Rourkela, who has been heavily involved in both clinical and scientific research - focused on understanding the pathophysiology of cerebral malaria in Indian patients over the past 30 years. He has participated in landmark drug trials and reserach papers on the subject of malaria in top journals like Lancet, JID, CID, Malaria etc. Currently He is the Mentor cum Research Consultant of the US NIH- funded International Centers for Excellence in Malaria Research (ICEMR) in collaboration with New York University School of Medicine, USA at IGH Rorukela, known as the CSCMi (Center for the Study of Complex Malaria in India) which aims to better understand the pathology of cerebral malaria using revolutionary MRI techniques. Besides, he is also the Senior consultant for the UK DFID sponosred multi-centered project on Tracking Artemisisnin Resistance in Malaria (TRAC II) at IGH Rourkela in collaboration with Oxford University UK and Mahidol University Bangkok, Thailand. Besides being an Internal Medicine & Expert ICU Physician involved in clinical and scientific research for the past 30 years, his major activities also included :
- Antimalarial drug trials e.g. SEQUAMAT (Artesunate vs Quinine) Trial in severe malaria (Lancet 2005)
- Unraveling the pathogenesis of cerebral malaria by neuroimaging (CT) including the largest series of cerebral malaria in adults published in CID 2011, and more recently MRI, as published in Malaria Journal in 2014)
- WHO faculty for “Management of severe Malaria” (Training doctors from India & Nepal).
- Expert Member of the National Drug Policy on Malaria, Govt. Of India.
- Research Publications, reviews and book chapters in Malaria : around 70 with more than 1600 citations
